Trash Removal

Republic Services provides trash removal per a contract with Lower Moreland Township.

Depending on your neighborhood, trash is collected each week either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. Click here to view the Trash and Recycling Schedule. Click here to view a folder Street Map , click here to view a image Ward Map .

To ensure that your curbside materials will be collected, it is recommended that you place them curbside the night before, but no earlier than 6:00 p.m. Trucks will not return for materials placed curbside if the trucks have already passed by.

All materials must be placed curbside, not in the street.

A limit of six (6) trash cans, bundles, or bags is enforced.

Containers should have securely fastened lids to prevent water or other debris from entering the container. The Township is charged by the amount of tonnage, which in turn determines trash fees.

All empty containers must be removed from the curb on the same day of collection.

Collection regulations will be strictly enforced and violators are subjects to fines and penalties.

All curbside materials must be sealed securely in a metal or plastic container or plastic bag, and must not exceed fifty (50) pounds each.
Discarded carpeting must be sliced into three (3) foot sections, then rolled and tied into a bundle weighing, less than 50 pounds.

Some items not collected curbside include hazardous waste, building materials, concrete, dirt, stones, tires, batteries and automotive parts.  See below for hazardous waste disposal sites.

Regulations on size and weight will be strictly enforced and all violations will result in applicable fines set out by Township Code.

RecyclingThere is established a recycling program for the mandatory separation and collection of designated recyclable materials from all residences, multifamily residences, businesses or institutions in the Township for which waste collection is provided by the Township or any other collector as designated in Ordinance 402. Collection of the recyclable materials to be recycled shall be made periodically by the Township, its designated agent or any other solid waste collectors operating in the Township.

Republic also provides recycling per a contract with Lower Moreland Township.  Recycling stickers may be placed on any plastic container up to 32 gallons for single stream recycling.  Recycling stickers may be picked up free of charge at the Township Building.

All recycled materials to be picked up must be placed at the curb in plastic containers only, separated from the normal trash by a few feet so a distinction may be made. No recycled materials will be collected in a cardboard box or plastic bag. Recycled materials are collected once a week from your curb.

Single Stream Recycling

All recyclable items listed below may now be placed in a Township designated toter.

Recycling materials includes food and beverage cartons such as milk, juice, soup, broth, etc., newspapers, inserts, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, envelopes, paperback books, phone books, cardboard, clean pizza boxes (cut cardboard to 12 inch squares), office and school papers, colored paper, boxboard, paper egg cartons, paper bags (grocery type), aluminum cans, clean foil, tin and steel aerosol cans (empty), glass jars and bottles and all plastic containers labeled 1-7. Please note that some types of #6 recyclables cannot be accepted, such as Styrofoam or other "foamed polystyrene" plastics. "Non-foamed polystyrene" plastics, such as butter and yogurt containers can be recycled.

Be Green – please remember all containers should be empty and clean.

Commercial Refuse and Recycling Regulations

Refuse generated from the operation of any commercial enterprise, including businesses, institutional uses, schools, or apartment complexes consisting of four or more units, must arrange for the collection of all refuse and recyclable materials via a licensed hauler.  All commercial enterprises are required to establish recycling programs for paper, corrugated cardboard, aluminum containers and leaf waste.  The aforementioned materials represent the minimum recycling requirements established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Lower Moreland Township encourages all commercial enterprises to expand their recycling programs wherever feasible to include glass containers, plastics, and other recyclable materials.  Most businesses will find that recycling is a more cost-effective practice than conventional waste disposal methods. Click here for guidelines on mandatory commercial, institutional and municipal recycling.

Yard Waste

Please note that the schedule for yard waste collection has changed. All yard waste is now collected by Republic Services every WEDNESDAY, April through December. We would like to remind residents of the following:

  • Yard waste and leaves must be placed in a biodegradable bag or container up to 32- gallons. This container must have holes drilled in the bottom and have a designated yard waste collection sticker.
  • Tree limbs placed curbside may not exceed a diameter of 2 inches, a length of 36 inches and the bundles may not weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Bundles must be cut into 3 foot sections and tied with manila rope or jute twine.

Act 101 of 1988 mandates recycling in Pennsylvania and requires municipalities to develop municipal waste management plans with an overall goal of reducing municipal waste generation. The Act stipulates that communities need to separate leaf waste for collection from household waste disposal.

It is important to remember that yard waste collected by the Township saves residents money. In 2013, our Public Works Department collected over 2,600 tons of yard waste from our residents. Yard collection netted a total savings in trash tipping fees of $169,000 or $40 per home.
