Trash Removal

Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) provides trash removal and recycling per a contract with Lower Moreland Township. Recycling bins can be purchased at the Township Building for $5.00 each.

Depending on your neighborhood, trash is collected each week either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday. All curbside materials must be sealed securely in a metal or plastic container or plastic bag, and must not exceed fifty (50) pounds each. If tree limbs are placed out for collection they may not exceed a diameter of two (2) inches, a length of thirty-six (36) inches and again the bundles weigh no more than fifty (50) pounds. Discarded carpeting must be sliced into three (3) foot sections then rolled and tied into a bundle weighing less than 50 pounds. Some items not collected curbside include hazardous wastes, building materials, concrete, dirt, stones, tires, batteries and automotive parts. Regulations on size and weight will be strictly enforced and all violations will result in applicable fines set out by Township Code.

Recycling

The Township also provides recycling services for its residents, collecting clear and colored glass, aluminum and metal food or beverage containers, newspapers, junk-mail, telephone books and plastic bottles marked with either a 1 or 2 on the bottom. All recycled materials to be picked up must be placed at the curb in plastic containers only, separated from the normal trash by a few feet so a distinction may be made. All paper materials must be placed in a brown paper bag or tied with a string. No recycled materials will be collected in a cardboard box or plastic bag. Recycled materials are collected once a week from your curb.

Bulk Items

Non metal bulk items include mattresses, chairs, sofas, TV's, and non-appliance metallic items like bicycles are collected on the second collection day of each week except during a holiday week. Residents are limited to the collection of either one (1) large or two (2) small bulk items per collection day.

White Goods

Residents are required to pay a fee for the collection of all appliances known as white goods, such as stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, riding lawn mowers, hot water heaters, window air conditioners or any other large metal item. Upon receipt of the fee, a sticker will be issued to the resident. The sticker should be placed on the item for collection at the curb on the third Monday of each month. Residents may obtain the stickers in person or by mailing a request with payment of $40.00 to the Township Municipal Building. The request should include a description of the item.
